Secretary of State For Transport
In the reshuffle after the sudden resignation of the Transport Secretary Ruth Kelly during the Labour Party Conference, Hoon became the Secretary of State for Transport on 3 October 2008. His old post of Labour Chief Whip was given to Nick Brown.
In January 2009, Hoon gave the official go-ahead for the controversial expansion of Heathrow Airport.
