Genie (feral Child) - Current

Current

Genie is currently a ward of the state of California, and is living in an undisclosed location. In 2008 ABC News reported that in 2000, someone, speaking under condition of anonymity, had hired a private investigator who located Genie. She was reportedly living in a small private facility for mentally underdeveloped adults, and appeared to be happy. Although she only spoke a few words, she could still communicate fairly well in sign language. As of 2008, despite badly missing Genie and repeatedly attempting to find her, Susan Curtiss had not seen Genie since January 1978. That same year, Genie's brother said he said he had not seen Genie since 1982 and wished he had been more involved in her life. He had refused to watch or read any accounts of the case and had only recently heard any updates on her condition, though he was glad she had gotten so much attention and said she was reportedly happy where she was living.

Famous quotes containing the word current:

You are the current of the frozen stream,
Shadow invisible, ambushed and vigilant flame.
    Allen Tate (1899–1979)

It is not however, adulthood itself, but parenthood that forms the glass shroud of memory. For there is an interesting quirk in the memory of women. At 30, women see their adolescence quite clearly. At 30 a woman’s adolescence remains a facet fitting into her current self.... At 40, however, memories of adolescence are blurred. Women of this age look much more to their earlier childhood for memories of themselves and of their mothers. This links up to her typical parenting phase.
    Terri Apter (20th century)

I have come to believe ... that the stage may do more than teach, that much of our current moral instruction will not endure the test of being cast into a lifelike mold, and when presented in dramatic form will reveal itself as platitudinous and effete. That which may have sounded like righteous teaching when it was remote and wordy will be challenged afresh when it is obliged to simulate life itself.
    Jane Addams (1860–1935)
