Famous quotes containing the words generations, jazz and/or academy:

In a few generations more, there will probably be no room at all allowed for animals on the earth: no need of them, no toleration of them. An immense agony will have then ceased, but with it there will also have passed away the last smile of the world’s youth.
Ouida [Marie Louise De La Ramée] (1839–1908)

The further jazz moves away from the stark blue continuum and the collective realities of Afro-American and American life, the more it moves into academic concert-hall lifelessness, which can be replicated by any middle class showing off its music lessons.
    Imamu Amiri Baraka (b. 1934)

When the State wishes to endow an academy or university, it grants it a tract of forest land: one saw represents an academy, a gang, a university.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)
