GE Energy - History

History

A company-wide reorganization prompted by financial losses led to the unit's formation in 2008 from companies within GE Infrastructure.

On March 29, 2011, GE Energy announced plans to acquire a 90% stake in Converteam for $3.2 billion.

By the end of 2012, John Krenicki stepped down as president of GE Energy in a move to break the energy businesses into the following three independent sub-businesses:

  • GE Energy Management
  • GE Oil & Gas
  • GE Power & Water.

This is seen as an effort to drive simplification and visibility in GE.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

I believe my ardour for invention springs from his loins. I can’t say that the brassiere will ever take as great a place in history as the steamboat, but I did invent it.
    Caresse Crosby (1892–1970)

Throughout the history of commercial life nobody has ever quite liked the commission man. His function is too vague, his presence always seems one too many, his profit looks too easy, and even when you admit that he has a necessary function, you feel that this function is, as it were, a personification of something that in an ethical society would not need to exist. If people could deal with one another honestly, they would not need agents.
    Raymond Chandler (1888–1959)

America is, therefore the land of the future, where, in the ages that lie before us, the burden of the World’s history shall reveal itself. It is a land of desire for all those who are weary of the historical lumber-room of Old Europe.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)
