Gary Burton - Personal Life

Personal Life

Following an early marriage in his 20's, Burton married for a second time in 1975 to Catherine Goldwyn, granddaughter of film producer Samuel Goldwyn (1879–1974).

By the 1980s, Burton was in a homosexual relationship. He came out publicly in a 1994 radio interview with Terry Gross, making him one of rather few openly gay jazz musicians of prominence.

Famous quotes containing the words personal and/or life:

Your children don’t have equal talents now and they won’t have equal opportunities later in life. You may be able to divide resources equally in childhood, but your best efforts won’t succeed in shielding them from personal or physical crises. . . . Your heart will be broken a thousand times if you really expect to equalize your children’s happiness by striving to love them equally.
    Marianne E. Neifert (20th century)

Everything in life that we really accept undergoes a change. So suffering must become Love. That is the mystery.
    Katherine Mansfield (1888–1923)
