Gargoyle (comics) - Publication History

Publication History

The first Gargoyle named Yuri Topolov appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962), and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Note that the Gargoyle's appearance in Rampaging Hulk #1 is merely part of one of Bereet's fictional techno-art films. The first Gargoyle received an entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition #17, where his real name was revealed.

The second Gargoyle named Isaac Christians was a human/demon composite and a member of the Defenders. He was created by writer J. M. DeMatteis and artist Don Perlin.

Famous quotes containing the words publication and/or history:

I would rather have as my patron a host of anonymous citizens digging into their own pockets for the price of a book or a magazine than a small body of enlightened and responsible men administering public funds. I would rather chance my personal vision of truth striking home here and there in the chaos of publication that exists than attempt to filter it through a few sets of official, honorably public-spirited scruples.
    John Updike (b. 1932)

There is nothing truer than myth: history, in its attempt to “realize” myth, distorts it, stops halfway; when history claims to have “succeeded” this is nothing but humbug and mystification. Everything we dream is “realizable.” Reality does not have to be: it is simply what it is.
    Eugène Ionesco (b. 1912)
