Criticism
Because of the low capacity of GBA cartridges (ranging from 4 to 32 MB) and the length of the video content (feature length movies), video is heavily compressed, with visual artifacts marring nearly every frame. The image quality has the appearance similar to early Cinepak compression, and the "quilting" and color bleeding effect found in other compressed video formats is also present. Also, in cases where the episode is available both as a 45-minute two parter or a 22-minute edited version, the 22-minute version is used.
Some reviewers have criticized GBA Video as being inferior to DVDs of the shows in several ways. However, defenders of the format note that GBA Video was never meant to be a serious competitor to the DVD format, and since the videos are generally targeted at young children, their lower video quality may be considered acceptable.

Famous quotes containing the word criticism:
“A bad short story or novel or poem leaves one comparatively calm because it does not exist, unless it gets a fake prestige through being mistaken for good work. It is essentially negative, it is something that has not come through. But over bad criticism one has a sense of real calamity.”
—Rebecca West (18921983)
“The greater the decrease in the social significance of an art form, the sharper the distinction between criticism and enjoyment by the public. The conventional is uncritically enjoyed, and the truly new is criticized with aversion.”
—Walter Benjamin (18921940)
“It is from the womb of art that criticism was born.”
—Charles Baudelaire (18211867)
