Famous quotes containing the words franklin, mountains, state and/or park:

I should have no objection to go over the same life from its beginning to the end: requesting only the advantage authors have, of correcting in a second edition the faults of the first.
    —Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790)

I’m headed for a land that’s far away
    Beside the crystal fountains.
So come with me, we’ll go and see
    The Big Rock Candy Mountains.
—Unknown. The Big Rock Candy Mountains (l. 5–8)

It was obviated in the State Department and the War Department under [Secretary of State Elihu] Root and me [Taft was the Secretary of War], because we simply ignored the interference and went on as we chose.... The subordinates gained nothing by his assumption of authority, but it was not so in the other departments.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)

Borrow a child and stay in the house all day with the child,
or go to the public park with the child, and take the child
to the welfare office and cry and say your man left you and
be humble and wear your dress and your smile, and don’t talk
    back ...
    Susan Griffin (b. 1943)
