Fourth Polish Republic

Fourth Polish Republic (pl. "IV Rzeczpospolita" or "IV RP"), a plan for moral revolution and political change put forth in 1997 by the Polish conservative philosopher Rafał Matyja in the magazine "Nowe Państwo". "Fourth Republic" was a political slogan used by the right-leaning Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) party in the 2005 Polish parliamentary election.

According to PiS, the current Third Polish Republic is a post-communist creation whose very foundations must be changed to create a truly democratic state free of its past.

Famous quotes containing the words fourth, polish and/or republic:

For the Lord thy God is a jealous God among you.
    Bible: Hebrew Deuteronomy, 6:15.

The words are also found in Exodus 20:5, referring to the second commandment: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image ... for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.”

The total and universal want of manners, both in males and females, is ... remarkable ... that polish which removes the coarser and rougher parts of our nature is unknown and undreamed of.
    Frances Trollope (1780–1863)

I date the end of the old republic and the birth of the empire to the invention, in the late thirties, of air conditioning. Before air conditioning, Washington was deserted from mid-June to September.... But after air conditioning and the Second World War arrived, more or less at the same time, Congress sits and sits while the presidents—or at least their staffs—never stop making mischief.
    Gore Vidal (b. 1925)
