Fort Hunt High School - Planetarium

Planetarium

Completed in January 1970, the planetarium suffered considerable smoke damage in the 1978 school fire. Following its renovation, it returned to service and is still in use today (at Sandburg Middle School). Lee Ann Henning was Fort Hunt's planetarium teacher until the school closed in 1985 and she transferred to West Potomac (classes periodically commuted to Sandburg to use the planetarium). In the fall of 1988, Henning transferred to Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, where she teaches to this day.

Famous quotes containing the word planetarium:

In a large university, there are as many deans and executive heads as there are schools and departments. Their relations to one another are intricate and periodic; in fact, “galaxy” is too loose a term: it is a planetarium of deans with the President of the University as a central sun. One can see eclipses, inner systems, and oppositions.
    Jacques Barzun (b. 1907)
