Current Relations

The current Federal Government of Somalia that succeeded the Transitional Federal Government is approved by the Arab League (AL), Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the African Union (AU) and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

The IGAD and AU member states are presently involved in a UN-sanctioned peacekeeping mission, AMISOM, to help stabilize Somalia.

In 2006, the United States took the lead in establishing the International Somalia Contact Group.

Famous quotes containing the words current and/or relations:

What in fact have I achieved, however much it may seem? Bits and pieces ... trivialities. But here they won’t tolerate anything else, or anything more. If I wanted to take one step in advance of the current views and opinions of the day, that would put paid to any power I have. Do you know what we are ... those of us who count as pillars of society? We are society’s tools, neither more nor less.
    Henrik Ibsen (1828–1906)

In today’s world parents find themselves at the mercy of a society which imposes pressures and priorities that allow neither time nor place for meaningful activities and relations between children and adults, which downgrade the role of parents and the functions of parenthood, and which prevent the parent from doing things he wants to do as a guide, friend, and companion to his children.
    Urie Bronfenbrenner (b. 1917)
