History
State Road 809 was formerly 40.7 miles (65.5 km) long, extending from Palmetto Park Road (CR 798) in Boca Raton to Indiantown Road (SR 706) in Jupiter). The road was converted to county roads in 2004 with the exception of the section between Lake Worth Road and Blue Heron Road.
Military Trail is named for the trail blazed by U.S. Army Tennessee and Missouri Volunteer forces, from a Fort in Jupiter, south to a Fort in Fort Lauderdale during the Second Seminole War.

“Three million of such stones would be needed before the work was done. Three million stones of an average weight of 5,000 pounds, every stone cut precisely to fit into its destined place in the great pyramid. From the quarries they pulled the stones across the desert to the banks of the Nile. Never in the history of the world had so great a task been performed. Their faith gave them strength, and their joy gave them song.”
—William Faulkner (18971962)
