Kyrenia Range

The Turkish and TRNC flag which have been drawn, facing south and onto the Greek side, into a mountain side of the Pentadaktylos (Greek: Πενταδάκτυλος, Turkish: Beşparmak, meaning five-fingered in Greek and Turkish respectively) range, and can be seen from space. The coordinates are 35°16′58″N 33°22′31″E / 35.282902°N 33.375263°E / 35.282902; 33.375263 allowing this image to be seen via Google Earth. Beneath the Turkish one is written in white, Ne Mutlu Türküm Diyene, an oft-repeated phrase of the Kemalist ideology meaning: Glad to be Turks.

In 2010 the Greek Cypriot side officially complained about the flag to the EU Commission, framed as an environmental hazard because of toxic materials used to transimpose it into the mountain side that are liable to leakage. It is also considered by Greek Cypriots as offensive not only to the environment but also their own community and as an act of provocation.
