Associations and Verbs
A single file extension may have several associations for performing various actions, also known as verbs. Some of the common verbs are:
- open to open a file
- edit to open a file for editing
- print to print a file
A picture, for example, may be associated with these verbs so that open opens the picture in an image viewer, edit opens up an image editing program and print sends the picture to a printer.

Famous quotes containing the words associations and, associations and/or verbs:
“There is ... no glamor at banquetsI mean the large formal banquets of big associations and societies. There is only a kind of dignified confusion that gradually unhinges the mind.”
—James Thurber (18941961)
“Wild as it was, it was hard for me to get rid of the associations of the settlements. Any steady and monotonous sound, to which I did not distinctly attend, passed for a sound of human industry.... Our minds anywhere, when left to themselves, are always thus busily drawing conclusions from false premises.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“He crafted his writing and loved listening to those tiny explosions when the active brutality of verbs in revolution raced into sweet established nouns to send marching across the page a newly commissioned army of words-on-maneuvers, all decorated in loops, frets, and arrowlike flourishes.”
—Alexander Theroux (b. 1940)
