Fan Zeng's prediction came true in 202 BC as Xiang Yu eventually lost to Liu Bang in the power struggle for supremacy over China from 206 BC to 202 BC, known as the Chu–Han Contention. Xiang Yu committed suicide after his defeat at the Battle of Gaixia, while Liu Bang proceeded to establish the Han Dynasty in China and became its first emperor known as "Emperor Gaozu of Han".
