Advantages of Thick Clients
- Lower server requirements. A thick client server does not require as high a level of performance as a thin client server (since the thick clients themselves do much of the application processing). This results in drastically cheaper servers.
- Working offline. Thick clients have advantages in that a constant connection to the central server is often not required.
- Better multimedia performance. Thick clients have advantages in multimedia-rich applications that would be bandwidth intensive if fully served. For example, thick clients are well suited for video gaming.
- More flexibility. On some operating systems software products are designed for personal computers that have their own local resources. Running this software in a thin client environment can be difficult.
- Using existing infrastructure. As many people now have very fast local PCs, they already have the infrastructure to run thick clients at no extra cost.
- Higher server capacity. The more work that is carried out by the client, the less the server needs to do, increasing the number of users each server can support.

Famous quotes containing the words advantages of, advantages, thick and/or clients:
“Can you conceive what it is to native-born American women citizens, accustomed to the advantages of our schools, our churches and the mingling of our social life, to ask over and over again for so simple a thing as that we, the people, should mean women as well as men; that our Constitution should mean exactly what it says?”
—Mary F. Eastman, U.S. suffragist. As quoted in History of Woman Suffrage, vol. 4 ch. 5, by Susan B. Anthony and Ida Husted Harper (1902)
“... is it not clear that to give to such women as desire it and can devote themselves to literary and scientific pursuits all the advantages enjoyed by men of the same class will lessen essentially the number of thoughtless, idle, vain and frivolous women and thus secure the [sic] society the services of those who now hang as dead weight?”
—Sarah M. Grimke (17921873)
“Farewell? a long farewell to all my greatness.
This is the state of man; today he puts forth
The tender leaves of hopes, tomorrow blossoms,
And bears his blushing honors thick upon him:
The third day comes a frost, a killing frost,
And when he thinks, good easy man, full surely
His greatness is a-ripening, nips his root,
And then he falls as I do.”
—William Shakespeare (15641616)
“...a lot of my people are models. I like that for them. I admire models, so I think thats right for my people. ...I love it when I have an important [client]. And the pictures and awards. One of my clients has these television awardsa beautiful statue of a woman. I think its an Emmy. People would be lucky to get one. She has two. I think thats great.”
—Elaine Strong (b. 1934)
