Reposted "news" Story By The Onion

In September 2012, Fars News picked up—as fact—a story from The Onion, a satirical newspaper, about a supposed survey showing an overwhelming majority of rural white Americans would rather vote for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad than US President Barack Obama in the upcoming US elections.

The Iranian version copied the original word-for-word, even including a made-up quote from a fictional West Virginia resident who says he'd rather go to a baseball game with Ahmadinejad because "he takes national defense seriously, and he'd never let some gay protesters tell him how to run his country like Obama does."

Famous quotes containing the words news, story and/or onion:

    The nature of bad news infects the teller.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)

    And now, dear little children, who may this story read,
    To idle, silly, flattering words, I pray you ne’er give heed;
    Unto an evil counselor close heart, and ear, and eye,
    And take a lesson from this tale of the Spider and the Fly.
    Mary Howitt (1799–1888)

    But could a dream send up through onion fumes
    Its white and violet, fight with fried potatoes
    And yesterday’s garbage ripening in the hall,
    Flutter, or sing an aria down these rooms
    Even if we were willing to let it in,
    Gwendolyn Brooks (b. 1917)
