In 1987, director Joe Dante made Innerspace, which reworked the story of Fantastic Voyage, but remade as a comedy starring Dennis Quaid, Martin Short, and Meg Ryan. A test miniaturized sub and pilot are injected into a grocery store clerk in error, instead of a test rabbit as planned. Now trapped in an unwititng human's body, the pilot needs to work with the clerk to escape and stop the bad guys from trying to steal the prototype technology.
