Family Research Institute - Hate Group Designation

Hate Group Designation

The Southern Poverty Law Center has listed FRI as an anti-gay hate group because of Cameron's discredited research and claims about LGBT people. According to the SPLC, Cameron's "continued demonization of LGBT people and the shoddy and suspect research methods he uses to advance his claims have earned his Family Research Institute (FRI) a place on the SPLC’s anti-LGBT hate group list." Among FRI's claims are that the primary activity of the gay rights movement is “seeking to legitimize child-adult homosexual sex.” In a similar vein, Cameron has said “the rise of the gay rights movement, homosexual rape of men appears to have increased.”

Other organization continue to cite FRI's discredited research including the American Family Association, Coral Ridge Ministries, Concerned Women for America, Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, the Family Research Council. The Illinois Family Institute has also cited FRI's research, but no longer does.

Famous quotes containing the words hate, group and/or designation:

Our father presents an optional set of rhythms and responses for us to connect to. As a second home base, he makes it safer to roam. With him as an ally—a love—it is safer, too, to show that we’re mad when we’re mad at our mother. We can hate and not be abandoned, hate and still love.
    Judith Viorst (20th century)

No other group in America has so had their identity socialized out of existence as have black women.... When black people are talked about the focus tends to be on black men; and when women are talked about the focus tends to be on white women.
    bell hooks (b. c. 1955)

In a period of a people’s life that bears the designation “transitional,” the task of a thinking individual, of a sincere citizen of his country, is to go forward, despite the dirt and difficulty of the path, to go forward without losing from view even for a moment those fundamental ideals on which the entire existence of the society to which he belongs is built.
    Ivan Sergeevich Turgenev (1818–1883)
