Famous quotes containing the words extinct, animals, isle and/or man:
“One realises, with horror, that the race of men is almost extinct in Europe. Only Christ-like heroes and woman-worshipping Don Juans, and rabid equality-mongrels. The old, hardy, indomitable male is gone.”
—D.H. (David Herbert)
“Error has made animals into men; is truth in a position to make men into animals again?”
—Friedrich Nietzsche (18441900)
“She carries in the dishes,
And lays them in a row.
To an isle in the water
With her would I go.”
—William Butler Yeats (18651939)
“As long as the womans work that some men do is socially devalued, as long as it is defined as womans work, as long as its tacked onto a regular work day, men who share it are likely to develop the same jagged mouth and frazzled hair as the coffee-mug mom. The image of the new man is like the image of the supermom: it obscures the strain.”
—Arlie Hochschild (20th century)
