Ewan Birney is a British computational biologist. He is currently joint associate director at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) and joint head of the Protein And Nucleic Acids (PANDA) group with Rolf Apweiler. The PANDA group is responsible for the widely used Ensembl genome browser, and highly cited research on, for example, sequence analysis and sequence annotation tools. Birney is also a Fellow of Churchill College, Cambridge.
