Evolution of Hawaiian Volcanoes - Shield Stages

Shield Stages

The shield stage of the volcano is subdivided into three phases: the submarine, explosive, and sub aerial. It is also the stage where the volcano's eruptive frequency reaches its peak.

Famous quotes containing the words shield and/or stages:

Vice is its own reward. It is virtue which, if it is to be marketed with consumer appeal, must carry Green Shield stamps.
    Quentin Crisp (b. 1908)

Phlebas the Phoenician, a fortnight dead,
Forgot the cry of gulls, and the deep sea swell
    And the profit and loss.
    A current under sea
Picked his bones in whispers. As he rose and fell
He passed the stages of his age and youth
    Entering the whirlpool.
