European Geography Association - History

History

In 1987, students from the universities of Warsaw, Barcelona and Utrecht met and had the idea to start an association to exchange their geographical knowledge between several countries in Europe. One year later, in 1988 it was getting official by launching a foundation with chair in Utrecht. EGEA has grown until 2011 from its initial three entities to a current number of 80 entities in 34 different European countries. The year 1996 gives an initial change for the organization, due to the fact that the first homepage was established. At the General Assembly 2009 in Heeg a change of organization was decided. Since then EGEA is working as an Association.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

Let it suffice that in the light of these two facts, namely, that the mind is One, and that nature is its correlative, history is to be read and written.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

A poet’s object is not to tell what actually happened but what could or would happen either probably or inevitably.... For this reason poetry is something more scientific and serious than history, because poetry tends to give general truths while history gives particular facts.
    Aristotle (384–323 B.C.)

In nature, all is useful, all is beautiful. It is therefore beautiful, because it is alive, moving, reproductive; it is therefore useful, because it is symmetrical and fair. Beauty will not come at the call of a legislature, nor will it repeat in England or America its history in Greece. It will come, as always, unannounced, and spring up between the feet of brave and earnest men.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
