Famous quotes containing the words the sun, run and/or sun:

For myself I found that the occupation of a day-laborer was the most independent of any, especially as it required only thirty or forty days in a year to support one. The laborer’s day ends with the going down of the sun, and he is then free to devote himself to his chosen pursuit, independent of his labor; but his employer, who speculates from month to month, has no respite from one end of the year to the other.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Man hath still either toys or care:
But hath no root, nor to one place is tied,
    But ever restless and irregular,
About this earth doth run and ride.
    He knows he hath a home, but scarce knows where;
He says it is so far,
That he has quite forgot how to go there.
    Henry Vaughan (1622–1695)

    What’s this, Aurora Leigh,
You write so of the poets and not laugh?
Those virtuous liars, dreamers after dark,
Exaggerators of the sun and moon,
And soothsayers in a tea-cup? I write so
Of the only truth-tellers, now left to God,—
The only speakers of essential truth,
    Opposed to relative, comparative,
    And temporal truths;...
The only teachers who instruct mankind,
    From just a shadow on a charnel-wall.
    Elizabeth Barrett Browning (1806–1861)
