Names and Titles

  • Dragon Rider - For being chosen by the blue dragon Saphira.
  • Argetlam - Meaning Silver Hand in the Ancient language, referring to the silver mark on his palm due to his bond with Saphira; known as the Gedwëy Ignasia.
  • Shur'tugal - Meaning Dragon Rider in the Ancient language.
  • Son of None - For a time, his father's identity was generally unknown.
  • Little One - Saphira usually called him this when they were alone.
  • Shadeslayer - For killing Durza, and assisting in the killing of Varaug.
  • Firesword - For wielding his sword, Brisingr, which would burst into flames whenever Eragon spoke its name. (This name is Urgal in origin)
  • Elf Friend - Declared an honored non-elf ally of Queen Islanzadí's people, indicated by the ring Aren because it had the symbol of non-elf ally on it.
  • Morzansson - For a time, after the Battle of the Burning Plains, when it was generally believed that Eragon was the son of Morzan, first and last of the Forsworn. Murtagh called him by this name once.
  • Finiarel - Elves, refer to him as Eragon-finiarel. The suffix finiarel being "an honorific for a young man of great promise."
  • Elda - At the end of Brisingr, Oromis refers to him as Eragon-elda. The suffix elda meaning "elder" in the Ancient language. The significance of being called elda is shown from the fact that, when Eragon first met Oromis, he referred to him as Oromis-elda, seeing as that was "the most respectful term he knew".
  • Vanquisher of Snails - While in Vroengard, he kills a giant snail and gives himself the (unofficial) title. It is never used afterwards.
  • Bromsson - After the revelation that Brom was not just his mentor, but his father too. In a memory of Brom that Saphira shows him, Brom refers to him as Eragon Bromsson, which is his full name.
  • Leader of the Varden - For a short time, after Nasuada was kidnapped by Murtagh but Eragon saved her and she got her title back.
  • Kingkiller - For killing Galbatorix during the Battle of Uru'baen.
  • Grand Master of the Dragon Rider order - After the death of Oromis and after taking upon himself, the responsibility of teaching new riders, after the Battle of Uru'baen.
