Famous quotes containing the words england, newest, hit and/or makers:

Casting me adrift, 3500 miles from a port of call. You’re sending me to my doom, eh? Well, you’re wrong, Christian! I’ll take this boat as she floats to England if I must. I’ll live to see you—all of you—hanging from the highest yardarms in the British fleet.
    Talbot Jennings (1896–1985)

The newest is but the oldest made visible to our senses.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

“If I hit him, he’ll hit me too,” Anton Petrovich thought in a flash. He pulled off the glove with a final yank and threw it awkwardly at Berg. The glove slapped against the wall and dropped into the washstand pitcher.
    “Good shot,” said Berg.
    Vladimir Nabokov (1899–1977)

All that we call ideal in Greek or any other art, because to us it is false and visionary, was, to the makers of it, true and existent.
    John Ruskin (1819–1900)
