Emma is the daughter of Ryan Lavery and Annie Lavery. She is born on May 12th 2002, through in vitro when Annie used (anonymous donor) Ryan's sperm sample. Emma comes to Pine Valley on the run with her mother, who is trying to stay away from husband at the time Terry McDermott. Emma does not meet her biological father Ryan until she is four years old. Annie and Terry divorce, and Emma's parents later marry. However, after their divorce and Annie's incarceration in a mental facility, Ryan wins custody. Annie leverages her subsequent marriage to Adam Chandler to regain shared custody, and moves Emma into the Chandler mansion. Emma is involved in the Stuart Chandler murder investigation, due to the fact that she is one of the witnesses to the 2009 murder. Annie takes Emma from Ryan and Greenlee's wedding in February 2011 and decides to leave town with her daughter. In March 2011, Emma returns to Pine Valley with Annie, where she is reunited with her dad. She has a younger paternal half-brother Spike Lavery and a younger paternal half-sister Sara Lavery, but baby Sara died shortly after she was born.
