Emirates Cup

The Emirates Cup is an annual two-day pre-season football tournament hosted by English Premier League club Arsenal and held at the Emirates Stadium, the club's home ground. It is similar in style to the Amsterdam Tournament hosted by Ajax.

Much like the Amsterdam Tournament, each team plays two matches, with three points awarded for a win, one point for a draw, and a point for every goal scored; however, this was changed in the 2011 tournament to remove the points for goals scored. From the 2009 edition, if teams are tied on points, goal difference and goals scored, they are ranked by the total shots on target during the tournament.

New York Red Bulls are the current holders of the cup. Arsenal won the tournament in 2007, 2009 and 2010. Hamburger SV won the trophy in 2008.

Famous quotes containing the word cup:

Sisters define their rivalry in terms of competition for the gold cup of parental love. It is never perceived as a cup which runneth over, rather a finite vessel from which the more one sister drinks, the less is left for the others.
    Elizabeth Fishel (20th century)
