History
The hotel was the first new casino to open on the opposite end of the railroad tracks during Reno's early gaming expansion in the 1970s. A businessman and family with California roots, the Carano family, through a land exchange with a local butcher and drugstore attained the land to build their hotel-casino. They wanted to get in on the gaming scene in Reno and so they did with their high end Eldorado Hotel and Casino which opened on May 26, 1973 despite some controversy about its location. In later years, this location would soon become a boom of hotels and casinos with downtown Reno's largest now on this end of downtown. The Eldorado is today one of Downtown Reno's largest hotels and one of the highest ranking hotel-casinos in the nation according to Tripadvisor.com.
The Eldorado throughout the years has undergone many transformations and expansions. Four room towers were added between 1976 and 1995 and many renovations adding restaurants, casino space, shopping and visitor attractions. The most recent investing went into the modernization of the hotel rooms and a $5 million remodel of the hotel's buffet. A Swarovski luxury store was added in June 2010. The hotel is still owned today by the Carano family, whose gaming company Eldorado Resorts LLC has gone national with another Eldorado Resort in Shreveport, LA and joint ownership in Downtown Reno's Silver Legacy with MGM Resorts International.
The hotel is known for its food. Its owners own a stake in the Ferrari-Carano winery in California. They sponsor many food type events in Reno and own their own bakery in the hotel's basement. Entertainment is also a draw for the hotel; an 580 seat showroom plays host to nationally touring broadway productions and stage shows as well as occasional headliners. Paul Anka and comedian Vicki Lawrence have performed at the Eldorado.
Beginning in 2011, ownership began investing millions into refurbishments in various areas of the property. Particularly nightlife, the hotel brought back it's popular Bubinga Lounge after a multi-million transformation in March 2011 and has invested into "Centro Bar" a new concept located in the center of the casino floor, a concept popular in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. It's not just nightlife, it's dining as well. Inside the famous Roxy Restaurant, a new sushi bar will have been opened and a new Chinese noodle bar concept called Pho-Mein. The re investments follow a new marketing campaign with the tagline "It's whats inside". Other areas of the property have been refurbished including the hotel lobby.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“What is most interesting and valuable in it, however, is not the materials for the history of Pontiac, or Braddock, or the Northwest, which it furnishes; not the annals of the country, but the natural facts, or perennials, which are ever without date. When out of history the truth shall be extracted, it will have shed its dates like withered leaves.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“The history of persecution is a history of endeavors to cheat nature, to make water run up hill, to twist a rope of sand.”
—Ralph Waldo Emerson (18031882)
“When we of the so-called better classes are scared as men were never scared in history at material ugliness and hardship; when we put off marriage until our house can be artistic, and quake at the thought of having a child without a bank-account and doomed to manual labor, it is time for thinking men to protest against so unmanly and irreligious a state of opinion.”
—William James (18421910)
