El Yunque National Forest - El Portal Rain Forest Center

El Portal Rain Forest Center

Opened in 1996, the El Portal Rain Forest Center is designed to give visitors an introduction to the rain forest. A walkway set at 60 feet (18 m) above the ground allows for a view of the tops of trees, and another walkway winds along tree bases. Exhibits at the center focus on the plants and animals of the rain forest, the importance of rain forests around the world, and threats to rain forests and efforts to conserve them.

Famous quotes containing the words portal, rain, forest and/or center:

    Some sepulcher, remote, alone,
Against whose portal she hath thrown,
In childhood, many an idle stone—
Some tomb from out whose sounding door
She ne’er shall force an echo more,
Thrilling to think, poor child of sin!
It was the dead who groaned within.
    Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849)

A single gentle rain makes the grass many shades greener. So our prospects brighten on the influx of better thoughts.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

What is most striking in the Maine wilderness is the continuousness of the forest, with fewer open intervals or glades than you had imagined. Except the few burnt lands, the narrow intervals on the rivers, the bare tops of the high mountains, and the lakes and streams, the forest is uninterrupted.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

Every beloved object is the center point of a paradise.
    Novalis [Friedrich Von Hardenberg] (1772–1801)
