Edge Act Corporation

An Edge Act Corporation is a corporation chartered by the Federal Reserve of the United States under the Edge Act to engage in international banking operations. The Federal Reserve Board acts upon applications by U.S. and foreign banking organizations to establish Edge corporations. The board also examines Edge corporations and their subsidiaries.

These corporations can accept deposits as well as provide loans, so long as these functions are specifically related to international transactions.

Famous quotes containing the words edge, act and/or corporation:

    They call back to us
from the gauzy edge of paradise,
    good news, good news.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Spirit is now a very fashionable word: to act with Spirit, to speak with Spirit, means only to act rashly, and to talk indiscreetly. An able man shows his Spirit by gentle words and resolute actions; he is neither hot nor timid.
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl Chesterfield (1694–1773)

What I am anxious to do is to get the best bill possible with the least amount of friction.... I wish to avoid [splitting our party]. I shall do all in my power to retain the corporation tax as it is now and also force a reduction of the [tariff] schedules. It is only when all other efforts fail that I’ll resort to headlines and force the people into this fight.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
