Religion

The Church of England parish church of Saint Mary Magdalene is just off the High Street. It dates from the 13th century. Graves of the Sotherby family and the Franklin family are in the churchyard. The church is in the Diocese of Peterborough.

Two former chapels, one off the High Street and the other in West Street, have been converted to residential properties.

From about 1687 to 1703 Henry Bagley ran a bell foundry in Ecton. Bagley is buried in the parish churchyard. The Bagley family also ran a bell-foundry in Chacombe.

Famous quotes containing the word religion:

There is not enough religion in the world even to destroy religion.
    Friedrich Nietzsche (1844–1900)

The religion of the Bible is the best in the world. I see the infinite value of religion. Let it be always encouraged. A world of superstition and folly have grown up around its forms and ceremonies. But the truth in it is one of the deep sentiments in human nature.
    Rutherford Birchard Hayes (1822–1893)

If therefore my work is negative, irreligious, atheistic, let it be remembered that atheism—at least in the sense of this work—is the secret of religion itself; that religion itself, not indeed on the surface, but fundamentally, not in intention or according to its own supposition, but in its heart, in its essence, believes in nothing else than the truth and divinity of human nature.
    Ludwig Feuerbach (1804–1872)
