Eastern New Orleans - Today

Today

Eastern New Orleans is becoming more of how it used to be Pre-Katrina. Many retail shops have opened on Bullard Avenue and around the East. Alot of these stores are family owned businesses and black owned franchises such as the USA Neighborhood Market. A Walmart, Big Lots, and a CVS Pharmacy are coming to New Orleans East. Also a new library and Joe Brown Memorial Park has been newly renovated. Methodist Hospital is planned to be reopened by the end of 2013 and an outlet mall is planned for the former Jazzland site.

Famous quotes containing the word today:

In times past there were rituals of passage that conducted a boy into manhood, where other men passed along the wisdom and responsibilities that needed to be shared. But today we have no rituals. We are not conducted into manhood; we simply find ourselves there.
    Kent Nerburn (20th century)

We had to take the world as it was given:
The nursemaid sitting passive in the park
Was rarely by a changeling prince accosted,
The mornings happened similar and stark
In rooms of selfhood where we woke and lay
    Watching today unfold like yesterday.
    Adrienne Rich (b. 1929)
