The 2011 India census reported Dum Dum had a population of 117,637. The sex ratio was 927 females per 1000 males and 5.7 percent of the population was under six years old. Effective literacy was 93.51 percent; male literacy was 94.09 percent and female literacy was 92.88 percent.
