Drugs and Driving
The Swedish traffic police have a zero tolerance policy for driving influenced by drugs. Annually about 2.5 million random tests are performed for alcohol and about 12 thousand tests on suspicion of drugs. The limit for alcohol is lower than in most countries, 0.02 milligram per 100 milligram of blood. The International Transport Forum compare in its annual report of 2010 the number of traffic related deaths per billion vehicle kilometer in a number of comparable countries. Sweden showed in 2009 the lowest number (4.4), the UK (4.6) and the US (7.1).
