Chavez has been shown to have a somewhat cocky attitude, being younger than his mentor, John Clark. He is very vengeful at times, possibly a result of his time in the gang, once threatening to castrate an IRA member who held his wife hostage in an attack on the hospital where she worked. However, Chavez is not ruthless. In Debt of Honor, he was sickened after he was forced to use a laser to blind the pilots of Japanese AWACS planes coming in to land, causing the planes to crash and taking the lives of people who were just doing their job, as he was.
