After an altercation with doorstaff at the Berlin nightclub, Riordan was banned for two years from all pubs and nightclubs that take part in the Edinburgh-based Unight scheme. This ban was increased to five years in November 2008 after he allegedly punched someone in a nightclub. At the start of the following season, Riordan was disciplined by Hibs after he was arrested and fined by Lothian and Borders Police for a breach of the peace. In May 2012, Riordan was arrested for over an alleged disturbance at a popular night spot at the HMV Picture House venue in Edinburgh's Lothian Road after reported in confrontation with a bouncer.
According to Former striking partner Garry O'Connor at Hibernain, O'Connor says he and Riordan have been best friend since childhood.
