Future
The station is to be incorporated into London Overground through the newly extended East London Line, under phase 2. Mayor Boris Johnson announced the go-ahead for the extension on 16 February 2009. The new service will begin in December 2012, connecting Clapham Junction with Highbury & Islington, replacing the existing South London Line service. This will reduce Denmark Hill's direct service to Victoria and London Bridge, but will introduce for the first time direct links to Docklands and the eastern part of the City of London.

Famous quotes containing the word future:
“Perhaps if the future existed, concretely and individually, as something that could be discerned by a better brain, the past would not be so seductive: its demands would be balanced by those of the future. Persons might then straddle the middle stretch of the seesaw when considering this or that object. It might be fun.”
—Vladimir Nabokov (18991977)
“Poetry is not only dream and vision; it is the skeleton architecture of our lives. It lays the foundations for a future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before.”
—Audre Lorde (19341992)
“One merit in Carlyle, let the subject be what it may, is the freedom of prospect he allows, the entire absence of cant and dogma. He removes many cartloads of rubbish, and leaves open a broad highway. His writings are all unfenced on the side of the future and the possible. Though he does but inadvertently direct our eyes to the open heavens, nevertheless he lets us wander broadly underneath, and shows them to us reflected in innumerable pools and lakes.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
