Dead Peer Detection

Dead Peer Detection (DPD) is a method of detecting a dead Internet Key Exchange (IKE) peer. The method uses IPsec traffic patterns to minimize the number of messages required to confirm the availability of a peer. DPD is used to reclaim the lost resources in case a peer is found dead and it is also used to perform IKE peer failover.

Famous quotes containing the words dead and/or peer:

    This is the dead land
    This is cactus land
    Here the stone images
    Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man’s hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.
    —T.S. (Thomas Stearns)

The Peer now spreads the glitt’ring Forfex wide,
T’inclose the Lock; now joins it, to divide.
    Alexander Pope (1688–1744)
