Personal Life

Weir is in a relationship with Emily Thorne with whom he has a son, Mason, and a daughter, Tillia Grace London Weir. He also has a daughter, Ronie, from a previous relationship. After winning the 800m at the 2012 Paralympics Weir said "I have really got to thank Emily for calming me down, and this one is for my kids tonight."

In 2002 Jenny Archer became Weir's coach and was thanked by Weir after his first London marathon victory in 2002. They have had a long and fruitful sporting relationship, and Jenny was acknowledged again in 2012 as the "best in the world by far" by Weir.

Weir has often acknowledged the help that Lottery funding has given him in being able to compete as an elite athlete. He told the Telegraph: "For me personally, Lottery funding through UK Sport for 10 years has been life-changing and has helped me become the best wheelchair racer in the world."

Famous quotes containing the words personal life, personal and/or life:

Wherever the State touches the personal life of the infant, the child, the youth, or the aged, helpless, defective in mind, body or moral nature, there the State enters “woman’s peculiar sphere,” her sphere of motherly succor and training, her sphere of sympathetic and self-sacrificing ministration to individual lives.
    Anna Garlin Spencer (1851–1931)

Personality and mind, like moustaches, belong to a certain age. They are a deformity in a child.... Leave his sensibilities, his emotions, his spirit, and his mind severely alone. There is the devil in mothers, that they must provoke personal ... response from their infants.
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

... the ... thing I am proudest of in my whole business life is that I do not take, that I never took in all my life, and never, never! will take, one single penny more than 6% on any loan or any contract.
    Hetty Green (1834–1916)
