Politics

Brandon was elected to the Board of Regents of the University of Michigan in 1998, as a member of the Republican Party. In the November 2006 election, he lost his reelection bid to Democrat Julia Donovan Darlow. His term expired December 31, 2006.

An avid participant in Republican politics, Brandon had expressed interest in running for the United States Senate in 2006 against Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow. However, he announced in August 2005 that he would not be a candidate in the 2006 elections. According to public records, Brandon has donated almost $200,000 to Republican Party candidates and election committees.

Famous quotes containing the word politics:

The politics of the exile are fever,
    revenge, daydream,
    theater of the aging convalescent.
You wait in the wings and rehearse.
    You wait and wait.
    Marge Piercy (b. 1936)

There is a place where we are always alone with our own mortality, where we must simply have something greater than ourselves to hold onto—God or history or politics or literature or a belief in the healing power of love, or even righteous anger.... A reason to believe, a way to take the world by the throat and insist that there is more to this life than we have ever imagined.
    Dorothy Allison (b. 1949)

I have come to the conclusion that the closer people are to what may be called the front lines of government ... the easier it is to see the immediate underbrush, the individual tree trunks of the moment, and to forget the nobility the usefulness and the wide extent of the forest itself.... They forget that politics after all is only an instrument through which to achieve Government.
    Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882–1945)
