Victims of Illegal Copying

German rapper Bushido has been charged with copying 16 songs from Dark Sanctuary. The song "Les Mémoires Blessées" was sampled by Bushido on his single "Janine" (2007) off his 6th and top-selling album Von der Skyline zum Bordstein zurück (2006). On that album Bushido sampled eight musical works of Dark Sanctuary without permission, including the songs "Les Larmes Du Mepris" (used on "Hast du was bist du was") and "L'autre Monde" (used on "Sex in the City").

On 23 March, 2010 he was convicted by German courts to a condemnation and was obliged to stop the sales of the concerned albums, singles and samplers, including Von der Skyline zum Bordstein zurück. In addition to that, he was bound to recall and destroy all unsold copies.

A video leaked by Marzel Becker and Stephan Heller, two German music criticizer, on the internet. In the video they compared Dark Sanctuary's songs to Bushido's songs.

Due their split up on July 2009, the members of the band could no longer sued the rapper after his judgment.

Famous quotes containing the words victims of, victims, illegal and/or copying:

Without being forgiven, released from the consequences of what we have done, our capacity to act would ... be confined to one single deed from which we could never recover; we would remain the victims of its consequences forever, not unlike the sorcerer’s apprentice who lacked the magic formula to break the spell.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)

In all sincerity, we offer to the loved ones of all innocent victims over the past 25 years, abject and true remorse. No words of ours will compensate for the intolerable suffering they have undergone during the conflict.
—Combined Loyalist Military Command. New York Times, p. A12 (October 14, l994)

No more astounding relic of the subjection of women survives in western civilization than the status of the prostitute.... In connection with what other illegal vice is the seller alone penalized, and not the buyer?
    Crystal Eastman (1881–1928)

As far as modern writing is concerned, it is rarely rewarding to translate it, although it might be easy.... Translation is very much like copying paintings.
    Boris Pasternak (1890–1960)
