Connections To Other Delany Works
Late in the third section we learn that, at the request of a close friend, Arnold anonymously wrote a pornographic novel. It is possibly Phallos, the fictional novel quoted from and referred to extensively in Delany's 2004 novel, also titled Phallos. Famous quotes containing the words connections, delany and/or works:
“... feminism is a political term and it must be recognized as such: it is political in womens terms. What are these terms? Essentially it means making connections: between personal power and economic power, between domestic oppression and labor exploitation, between plants and chemicals, feelings and theories; it means making connections between our inside worlds and the outside world.”
—Anica Vesel Mander, U.S. author and feminist, and Anne Kent Rush (b. 1945)
“There are certain stereotypes that are offensive. Some of them dont worry me, though. For instance, I have always thought that Mammy character in Gone with the Wind was mighty funny. And I just loved Amos n Andy on the radio. So you see, I have enough confidence in myself that those things did not bother me. I could laugh.”
—Annie Elizabeth Delany (b. 1891)
“I lay my eternal curse on whomsoever shall now or at any time hereafter make schoolbooks of my works and make me hated as Shakespeare is hated. My plays were not designed as instruments of torture. All the schools that lust after them get this answer, and will never get any other.”
—George Bernard Shaw (18561950)
