Early Life and Career

Patrick was born in Baltimore on April 4, 1950. He was raised in a blue-collar neighborhood in East Baltimore. He is the only child of Charles Anthony Goeb (1926-2002), who worked at the Baltimore Sun for 31 years before retiring in 1984, and Vilma Jean Marshall. In later life, he legally changed his surname from Goeb to Patrick.

Patrick graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and was the first member of his family to graduate from college.

After college, in 1977, Patrick became a television broadcaster in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He later held a similar position in Washington, DC before becoming a sportscaster with KHOU-TV in Houston.

In 2006, Patrick signed a deal to purchase Highland Park, Texas radio station KMGS AM 1160, now known as KVCE.

In November 2008, Patrick began work to produce The Heart of Texas, a movie based on a real-life story of two families in Simonton, a small Houston-area city. The movie was released the next year on DVD.

Patrick currently hosts a conservative radio talk show with fellow radio host Chris Baker. The program, The Baker & Patrick Show, is broadcast in Houston on KSEV 700 AM and in Dallas on KVCE 1160 AM.

Famous quotes containing the words early, life and/or career:

Franklin said once in one of his inspired flights of malignity—
Early to bed and early to rise
Make a man healthy and wealth and wise.
As if it were any object to a boy to be healthy and wealthy and wise on such terms.
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

    They are girls. Green girls.
Death and life is their daily work.
Death seams up and down the leaf.
I call the leaves my death girls.
    Anne Sexton (1928–1974)

Clearly, society has a tremendous stake in insisting on a woman’s natural fitness for the career of mother: the alternatives are all too expensive.
    Ann Oakley (b. 1944)
