In Sumerian mythology, Damu is a god of vegetation and rebirth. He is the son of Enki and Nininsinna, or Bau and Ninurta. He kept the sap flowing and helped to regulate the death-rebirth cycle of nature.
Damu also seems to be a local offshoot of Tammuz.
