Czech Republic Fed Cup Team

The Czech Republic Fed Cup team is the representative national team of Czech Republic in Fed Cup competition. The Czech Republic team in its current incarnation only began competing in 1993. It is seen as the primary successor to the Czechoslovakian team, and not Slovakia, even though the Czechoslovakian team included both Czech and Slovak players.

Czechoslovakia won the Fed Cup five times between 1975 and 1988, but the victory in 2011 was the team's first win as the Czech Republic, with uphold in 2012.

Martina Navrátilová, one of the Czechoslovakian teams greatest players, helped guide the team to victory in 1975. In 1981 she became a US citizen and in later tournaments, notably the 1986 Fed Cup final, she played for the United States against her former nation.

Famous quotes containing the words czech, republic, fed, cup and/or team:

I’m neither Czech nor Slovak ... I’m still trying to figure out who I am. I think I’m Jewish. But first I want to be human.
    Natasha Dudinska (b. c. 1967)

Who is this Renaissance? Where did he come from? Who gave him permission to cram the Republic with his execrable daubs?
Mark Twain [Samuel Langhorne Clemens] (1835–1910)

They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour’s wife.
    Bible: Hebrew Jeremiah 5:8.

I write mainly for the kindly race of women. I am their sister, and in no way exempt from their sorrowful lot. I have drank [sic] the cup of their limitations to the dregs, and if my experience can help any sad or doubtful woman to outleap her own shadow, and to stand bravely out in the sunshine to meet her destiny, whatever it may be, I shall have done well; I have not written this book in vain.
    Amelia E. Barr (1831–1919)

Romeo. I dreamt a dream tonight.
    Mercutio. And so did I.
    Romeo. Well, what was yours?
    Mercutio. That dreamers often lie.
Romeo. In bed asleep, while they do dream things true.
Mercutio. O then I see Queen Mab hath been with you.
She is the fairies’ midwife, and she comes
In shape no bigger than an agate stone
On the forefinger of an alderman,
Drawn with a team of little atomi
Over men’s noses as they lie asleep.
    William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
