Cross Media Marketing Corporation and Lawsuits

The Cross Media Marketing Corporation is a company that uses e-mail messages or telephone calls, which are personalized to each specific customer, to sell their product. In 2002, federal regulators filed a criticism that the corporation’s magazine division was breaching marketing regulations. The Federal Trade Commission stepped in and claimed the company withheld information, misrepresented subscription lengths and prices, and billed customers for magazines that they did not order. The Corporation was sentenced by the F.T.C. to pay a hefty fine for their violation. A year later, in 2003, The Cross Media Marketing Corporation was forced to lay off 300 people and agreed to a $1.1 settlement fee with the F.T.C for ignoring customer’s desires to cancel their subscriptions and for misrepresenting the costs of packaging. Currently, the company is liquidating its possessions.

Famous quotes containing the words cross, media and/or corporation:

I know we’re not saints or virgins or lunatics; we know all the lust and lavatory jokes, and most of the dirty people; we can catch buses and count our change and cross the roads and talk real sentences. But our innocence goes awfully deep, and our discreditable secret is that we don’t know anything at all, and our horrid inner secret is that we don’t care that we don’t.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

The media network has its idols, but its principal idol is its own style which generates an aura of winning and leaves the rest in darkness. It recognises neither pity nor pitilessness.
    John Berger (b. 1926)

What I am anxious to do is to get the best bill possible with the least amount of friction.... I wish to avoid [splitting our party]. I shall do all in my power to retain the corporation tax as it is now and also force a reduction of the [tariff] schedules. It is only when all other efforts fail that I’ll resort to headlines and force the people into this fight.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
