Crew Medical Support Office

The primary function of medical operations, centred at the Crew Medical Support Office (CMSO) in the European Astronaut Centre, Cologne, Germany, is to maximize the operational effectiveness and minimize risks to the health of the European astronauts involved in human space flight activities. Furthermore CMSO also functions as a means of support to ESA astronaut families throughout their careers.

In order to fulfill this function CMSO provides flight surgeon services in combination with direct biomedical engineer support. To be fully effective these key areas of service provision require additional in-house supporting elements namely; exercise science, rehabilitation, IT and project management capabilities.

Famous quotes containing the words crew, medical, support and/or office:

    Nor aught availed him now
To have built in heav’n high tow’rs; nor did he scape
By all his engines, but was headlong sent
With his industrious crew to build in hell.
    John Milton (1608–1674)

Often, we expect too much [from a nanny]. We want someone like ourselves—bright, witty, responsible, loving, imaginative, patient, well-mannered, and cheerful. Also, we want her to be smart, but not so smart that she’s going to get bored in two months and leave us to go to medical school.
    Louise Lague (20th century)

They [parents] can help the children work out schedules for homework, play, and television that minimize the conflicts involved in what to do first. They can offer moral support and encouragement to persist, to try again, to struggle for understanding and mastery. And they can share a child’s pleasure in mastery and accomplishment. But they must not do the job for the children.
    Dorothy H. Cohen (20th century)

I thank those who were good enough to say something pleasant about the incoming administration, for I am glad to get it now. I heard of the man who went into office with a majority and went out with unanimity.
    William Howard Taft (1857–1930)
