Academic Achievements

County Upper achieved a 90.9% A*-C pass rate in the Summer 2012 "A" Level examinations, an improvement of 5% from 86% in 2011, versus a national percentage of 76.6%; this was the second best state school "A" Level result in Suffolk.

Between 2009 - 2012 nine County Upper Sixth Form students have achieved entry to Oxbridge Colleges. and research by the Sutton Trust shows around three-quarters of students leaving Year 13 attend university after leaving County Upper with a third attending the 30 most selective universities and colleges.

The 2012 GCSE results showed similar success with a record 74% of students gaining 5 or more A*-C passes including English and Mathematics, up from 71% in 2011, compared with 52% in Suffolk and 58.4% for England nationally. This was the highest percentage awarded for any state school in Suffolk in a controversial year where an overall decline in English grades came under much scrutiny across England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

35% of students also achieved an A*-C pass rate in both 2012 and 2011 for the GCSE subjects required to gain them the new English Baccalaureate qualification, (English, Mathematics, 2 Sciences, History/Geography and a Modern Foreign Language) meeting the 35% government target for 2012 against an average of 13.7% in Suffolk and 15.4% in 2011 across England (for state funded schools only).

Famous quotes containing the words academic and/or achievements:

The poker player learns that sometimes both science and common sense are wrong; that the bumblebee can fly; that, perhaps, one should never trust an expert; that there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of by those with an academic bent.
    David Mamet (b. 1947)

There are some achievements which are never done in the presence of those who hear of them. Catching salmon is one, and working all night is another.
