Role in Tradition
Certain traditions hold Cornelius as becoming either the first bishop of Caesarea or the bishop of Scepsis in Mysia. His feast day on the Roman calendar is 2 February.
Cornelius is honored with a feast day in the liturgical calendar of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America on February 7. When Governor's Island, New York, was a military installation the Episcopal Church maintained a stone chapel there dedicated to him.

Famous quotes containing the words role in, role and/or tradition:
“Friends serve central functions for children that parents do not, and they play a critical role in shaping childrens social skills and their sense of identity. . . . —Zick Rubin (20th century)
“Whatever were doing, whoever we are, it isnt enough. . . . Little wonder we have trouble finding role models to guide us through these shoals. No one less than God Herself could be all the things wed like to be to all the people wed like to feel approval from.”
—Melinda M. Marshall (20th century)
“Where do architects and designers get their ideas? The answer, of course, is mainly from other architects and designers, so is it mere casuistry to distinguish between tradition and plagiarism?”
—Stephen Bayley (b. 1951)
